Marsaskala
Hiking the coastline of Marsaskala on the Island of Malta 🇲🇹🌍 The village of Marsaskala sits in the south of the island of Malta, on the eastern side. Originally a fishing village, this seaside town is home to the largest watchtower in Malta, Saint Thomas Tower or 'Torri u Batterija ta' San Tumas'. 🇲🇹 Hug the coastline and travel south towards saint Thomas bay, a popular hangout area for swimming and boating in the summertime. 💦 Continue south up the road to 'munxar path' which takes you along the coastline and over to 'munxar bay' and 'munxar hole' where there is also a secret cave. 🤩 When you arrive at the end of the cliffs, make sure to check out the now sunken cart paths below in the water. Similar ones show up in the north of the islands, pointing towards Sicily, while these ones face North Africa. They exist from a time when the Mediterranean was much lower and you could walk from each island to mainland Africa. 😳 If you begin at the tower, the total distance to the cliff's edge is only 3km (1.8 miles) so I suggest continuing to Marsaxlokk further south if you're up for continuing your journey. 🥾 Whichever route you take, please respect the area, the island, and its residence. 🙏 Leave no trace behind and enjoy the seaside nature.
