Filming location of "The Count of Monte Cristo" — a viewpoint above the cave where escape scenes were shot. The 2002 film starring Guy Pearce.
When the 2002 "Count of Monte Cristo" crew searched for a location for Dantès' escape from Château d'If, they found the perfect spot above Monte Cristo Cave. The viewpoint on the cliff, from which you can see the cave entrance 50 metres below, provided a spectacular effect — the hero leaping into the abyss.
The film was planned for 5 days in Malta — they shot for 5 weeks. Director Kevin Reynolds fell in love with Malta's light, later saying: "This light doesn't exist anywhere else in the world." The film starring Guy Pearce and Jim Caviezel earned $75 million.
