Madonna and Guy Ritchie on Comino — "Swept Away" (2002) filmed on the island's beaches. Their last collaborative project before the high-profile divorce.
In 2002, Comino became the film set for "Swept Away" — a remake of the 1974 Italian classic. Director Guy Ritchie (Madonna's husband at the time) cast his wife in the lead: a rich snob shipwrecked on a desert island with a simple sailor.
Comino — nearly uninhabited, with wild landscapes and crystal water — perfectly suited the story. The crew filmed on several beaches and in caves, using natural scenery without needing to build sets.
The film was a flop — both critically and commercially. It won Madonna a Golden Raspberry for Worst Actress. Ironically, a story about a couple fighting on a desert island foreshadowed the end of their own marriage (divorce in 2008). But Comino — it came out of it beautifully.
