Hondoq ir-Rummien (Pomegranate Moat) is an intimate Blue Flag bay near Qala, facing Comino. Ideal for snorkelling with rich Posidonia meadows.
Hondoq ir-Rummien literally means "pomegranate moat". This intimate bay on Gozo's southeast coast, in the municipality of Qala, is one of the most popular beaches among locals. The sandy-pebbly bottom slopes gently into crystal-clear water, and the bay holds Blue Flag status confirming excellent water quality.
From Hondoq you have a superb view of Comino island and the Blue Lagoon across the channel. The rocky substrate south of the beach is covered with Posidonia oceanica seagrass meadows, creating a rich ecosystem for fish and invertebrates. Snorkelling here is excellent, with calm, clear water ideal for beginners.
The eastern exposure makes Hondoq one of the best spots on Gozo for watching the sunrise. The sun rises over Comino, flooding the bay with warm light.
