Cominotto — an uninhabited islet of just 0.01 km² with a tiny beach. The closest thing to a "desert island" in Europe, reachable by swimming from the Blue Lagoon.
Cominotto (Kemmunett in Maltese) is a miniature, uninhabited islet of just 0.01 km² — less than two football pitches. It lies 100 metres from Comino, separated by the Blue Lagoon channel. Despite its tiny size, it has its own small white-sand beach — about 250 sqm.
No ferries or boats run here. The only way to reach Cominotto is to swim across the channel (about 100 metres, shallow water) or paddle over by kayak. Those who make it find a silence that no other place in the Maltese archipelago can offer.
The islet is covered in wild vegetation — low shrubs, Mediterranean macchia, and wildflowers blooming in spring. Gulls and shearwaters nest in the rocky crevices. Humans have never lived here — there's no fresh water.
Cominotto is part of the Natura 2000 network and is strictly protected. Campfires, camping, and littering are prohibited. It's one of the last fragments of wild nature in Malta — worth protecting.
